Different is a workshop journal. Notes on projects, experiments, and the occasional rabbit hole I’ve wandered down. Mostly for future-me when I’m stuck on the same problem in six months… but you’re welcome to poke around.
Who’s behind this?
I’m Alister. I’ve spent over three decades as a professional full web-stack Developer, Sys Admin, Operator, and Product Designer (User Experience dude) mostly building enterprise software. I also freelanced as a website designer and dev under the name ‘Different’ back in the early days - before Squarespace made that a harder sell.
I’m an incessant tinkerer. Always have been. The kind of person who can’t leave well enough alone, who takes things apart to see how they work, and who has a workshop full of half-finished projects. This site is an attempt to document some of that - the successes, the failures, and the stuff I abandoned when something shinier came along.
What to expect
Mostly ramblings as I attempt to think out loud about things that I’m working or interested in. The tone is casual because this is notes-to-self, not a tutorial. If you find something useful, brilliant. If not, well, I warned you.
